The isentropic efficiency of the turbine in a steam power plant is 80%. The power output of the turbine is 30 MW. Steam exits the boiler and enters the turbine at 8 MPa and 500o C and exits the turbine to the condenser at 20 kPa. Steam exits the condenser as saturated liquid and is pumped back to the boiler employing a water pump. Assume State 1 to be the state of water entering the pump and State 2 to be the state of water leaving the pump and compute the following: (a) the steam mass flow rate through the turbine, (b) the condenser heat rejection rate, (c) the power consumed by the pump, (d) the enthalpy of the state of water leaving the pump, (e) the cycle thermal efficiency, and (f) the rate of entropy generation in the condenser if the ambient temperature is 10o C. Assume that the pumping process in the pump is isentropic.
