Consider a combined gas-steam power plant that has a net power output of 450 MW. The pressure ratio of the gas turbine cycle is 14. Air enters the compressor at 300 K and the turbine at 1400 K. The combustion gases leave the heat turbine are used to heat the steam at 8 MPa to 400oC in a heat exchanger. The combustion gases leave the heat exchanger at 460 K. An open feedwater heater incorporated with the steam cycle operates at a pressure of 0.6 MPa. The condenser pressure is 2o kPa. Assuming the isentropic efficiencies of 95% for the water pump, 82% for the compressor, and 86% for the gas and steam turbines. Investigate in details the effects of the gas cycle pressure ratio as it is varied from 10 to 20 (on a step of one) on the ration of gas flow rate to steam flow rate and cycle thermal efficiency. Plot your results as function of gas cycle pressure ratio, and discuss the results in details.

Apump is used to circulate hot water in a home heating system. water enters the well-insulated pump operating at steady state at a rate of 0.42 gal/min. the inlet pressure and temperature are 14.7 lbf/in.2, and 180°f, respectively; at the exit the pressure is 60 lbf/in.2 the pump requires 1/15 hp of power input. water can be modeled as an incompressible substance with constant density of 60.58 lb/ft3 and constant specific heat of 1 btu/lb or. neglecting kinetic and potential energy effects, determine the temperature change, in °r, as the water flows through the pump.
