At point A in a Carnot cycle, 2.34 mol of a monatomic ideal gas has a pressure of 1 400 kPa, a volume of 10.0 L, and a temperature of 720 K. The gas expands isothermally to point B and then expands adiabatically to point C, where its volume is 24.0 L. An isothermal compression brings it to point D, where its volume is 15.0 L. An adiabatic process returns the gas to point A.

a. Determine all the unknown pressures, volumes, and temperatures as you f ill in the following table:

P V T
A 1400Kpa 10.0L 720K
B
C 24.0L
D 15.0L

b. Find the energy added by heat, the work done by the engine, and the change in internal energy for each of the steps A→ B, B→ C, C→ D, and D → A
c. Calculate the efficiency W net/lQkl.
d. Show that the efficiency is equal to 1 - Tc/TA, the Carnot efficiency.

Apump is used to circulate hot water in a home heating system. water enters the well-insulated pump operating at steady state at a rate of 0.42 gal/min. the inlet pressure and temperature are 14.7 lbf/in.2, and 180°f, respectively; at the exit the pressure is 60 lbf/in.2 the pump requires 1/15 hp of power input. water can be modeled as an incompressible substance with constant density of 60.58 lb/ft3 and constant specific heat of 1 btu/lb or. neglecting kinetic and potential energy effects, determine the temperature change, in °r, as the water flows through the pump.
