A wooden rod weighing 5 lb is mounted on a hinge below the free surface. The rod is 10 ft long and uniform in cross section, and the support is 5 ft below the free surface. At what angle α will it come to rest when allowed to drop from a vertical position? The cross section of the rod is 1.5 in2 in area. Assume the center of buoyancy is at the midpoint of the submerged section of the rod due to its symmetric set-up condition.
