Joe Bruin has an "on demand" water heater that burns natural gas, which we will assume is composed of 100% methane (CH4). In this type of system, there is no hot water tank. Instead, when Joe turns on the hot water, a flame turns on that heats a metal pipe containing stream of cold water that enters at a temperature of 15°C and exits at a temperature of 45°C.
a) If Joe and his family use a total of 200 liters of hot water per day, estimate the total mass of CH4 that Joe would need to burn each day for water heating.
b) Estimate the total mass of CO2 that Joe and his family emit each day to heat their water.
c) Joe buys a natural gas-powered Stirling engine that turns a generator to provide electrical power for his house. If Joe uses the same mass of natural gas you calculated in Part a) to generate electricity using his Stirling engine every day, estimate how many kilowatt-hours of electricity he might expect to generate per day. Would this be enough to meet Joe's electricity needs?

Avolume of 2.65 m3 of air in a rigid, insulated container fitted with a paddle wheel is initially at 264 k, 5.6 bar. the air receives 432 kj by work from the paddle wheel. assuming the ideal gas model with cv = 0.71 kj/kg • k, determine for the air the amount of entropy produced, in kj/k
