Determine how you will prepare the 0.10 M NaOH and 0.10 M HCl solutions described below. Calculate the volume of the stock solution that you will dilute, and specify the type and size of appropriate glassware (reflecting the accuracy needed, or lack thereof) to measure the volumes. Before going into lab, show all your calculations and the type and size of glassware you specified. Also calculate the target mass range of KHP you will need to measure out for each titration with 0.10 M NaOH.

You will standardize your 0.10 M NaOH solution by using it to titrate a known mass of KHP. The amount of primary standard KHP used for each titration is determined by the requirement to keep the relative error resulting from the reading of the buret, as low as possible. Assuming that the end point is to occur upon delivery of between 35 and 45 mL of 0.10 M NaOH, calculate the target range for the sample weight of pure KHP (FW 204.23 g/mol) that should be weighed out for each titration. (35 mL would require one mass of KHP, and 45 mL would require a higher mass.

(Since the expected total precision of the volume reading of the 50 mL buret is ±0.04 mL, a titrated volume of 35- 45 mL delivered will result in a relative error of 1 ppt (part per thousand, i. e., 0.04mL/40mL x 1000 ppt = 1 ppt, = 0.1 %). This is the reason to assume a titration volume of 35-45 mL.) The titration reaction is

NaOH + KHC8H4O4 → H2O + Na+ + K+ + C8H4O4 2-
