Liquid water at 100 psia and 300f (state 1) enters an adiabatic throttling valve steadily with a mass flow rate of 20 lbm/s and exits at a pressure of 45 psia (state 2). fluid leaving the valve enters a rigid, insulated flash chamber; saturated liquid at 45 psia (state 3) and saturated vapor at 45 psia (state 4) exit from the flash chamber. saturated vapor exiting the flash chamber expands through an adiabatic turbine to a pressure of 3 psia (state 5). the isentropic efficiency of the turbine is 90%. assume that the surrounding pressure is 1 atm and temperature is 55f.(a) calculate the power (btu/s) produced by the turbine. (b) determine rate of exergy destruction (btu/s) for throttling valve, flash chamber, and turbine. (c) show the entire process on t-s diagram. label states, show property values, and indicate appropriate lines of constant pressure.

Two flowing streams of argon gas are adiabatically mixed to form a single flow/stream. one stream is 1.5 kg/s at 400 kpa and 200 c while the second stream is 2kg/s at 500 kpa and 100 ? . it is stated that the exit state of the mixed single flow of argon gas is 150 c and 300 kpa. assuming there is no work output or input during the mixing process, does this process violate either the first or the second law or both? explain and state all your assumptions.
