A2 mx 1.5 m section of wall of a furnace is not insulated and the temperature at the outer surface of this section is measured to be 110 °c. the temperature of the furnace room is 32 °c. it is proposed to insulate this section with glass wool insulation (k = 0.038 w/m. k) in order to reduce the heat loss by 90 percent. determine the thickness of the insulation using the total thermal resistance, assuming the outer surface temperature of the metal section still remains at 110 °c, the effective convection heat transfer coefficient at the surface of the outer furnace is h = 10 w/m²k and disregarding any radiation.

Water vapor initially at 10 bar and 400 °c is contained within a piston-cylinder assembly. the water lost heat to the surrounding according to isochoric (iso-volumetric) process until its temperature is 150 °c. the water is then condensed isothermally to saturated liquid. for the water as a system, calculate the work in kj/kg
