Let’s turn this into a more generic formula. Suppose N packets arrive simultaneously to a link at which no packets are currently being transmitted or queued. Each packet is of length L and the link has transmission rate R. They immediately all are put into the buffer, and the first packet immediately begins transmission, followed immediately by the next and next. You start a timer to measure the duration from the first bit of the first packet being transmitted to the last bit of the Nth packet being transmitted. This is how long it takes to clear the buffer of N packets. What is a formula for that? In other words, what is the average queuing delay for the N packets? Give your answer as a formula based on L, R, N and anything else you need.
