Introduction: For this project, you be creating a full design proposal for the design brief described below. The purpose of creating this design proposal is for conducting a preliminary design review of a proposed solution design. The purpose of a design proposal and a preliminary design review is to present a proposed solution to a customer so they can evaluate the final design before it is ever produced. Additionally, designers and engineers are expected or required to present their designs to other interested parties, such as potential investors or research and development teams within companies that will decide whether development of a product will continue.

The goals for a preliminary design review are to: a)

Validate your problem definition
Dialogue about three or more viable design concepts
Consider many factors that affect the success of a product (such as function, aesthetics, ergonomics, etc.) in order to refine and improve their product design
Consider the ethical implications of product design and the impacts of their product and the consequences of the potential failure of their product.
Agree on a final solution design.
A preliminary design review helps to garner all of the feedback necessary before going into physically building a solution to a problem. Without a preliminary design review, the engineering design process can be very costly because many mistakes or oversights can happen.

Assignment Requirements:

For this assignment you will create a narrated PowerPoint presentation of a design proposal for the design brief provided below. You will not actually build your design; you will only be submitting a design proposal presentation for a preliminary design review.

The design proposal must include the following:

A Problem Statement.
A justification as to why this problem needs a solution.
A description of the design specifications (Criteria & Constraints).
An explanation of your different solution ideas.
A description of how a decision matrix was used for selecting the best solution idea.
An explanation of how your solution idea will solve the problem.
A final technical drawing of your solution using Autodesk Inventor.
A list of Materials for building your solution.
A procedure for building your solution.
A conclusion as to why you should move forward with building your design.
The Design Brief

For this project, you will be helping out a local soybean farmer. This farmer would like to optimize the storage and delivery of soybeans and maximize his profit. To increase the efficiency of his current system, he has hired you to design a system to filter debris and move soybeans on to a truck for distribution. You must design a cleaner system to move soybeans from a storage silo to a delivery truck in the most efficient manner possible. The soybeans must be filtered so that only the beans are placed in the truck, not any additional debris. The design brief below provides the details for this project.
