All materials are made up from atoms, and all atoms consist of protons, neutrons and electrons. Protons, have a positive electrical charge. Neutrons have no electrical charge (that is they are Neutral), while Electrons have a negative electrical charge. Atoms are bound together by powerful forces of attraction existing between the atoms nucleus and the electrons in its outer shell.

When these protons, neutrons and electrons are together within the atom they are happy and stable. But if we separate them from each other they want to reform and start to exert a potential of attraction called a potential difference.

Now if we create a closed circuit these loose electrons will start to move and drift back to the protons due to their attraction creating a flow of electrons. This flow of electrons is called an electrical current. The electrons do not flow freely through the circuit as the material they move through creates a restriction to the electron flow. This restriction is called resistance.

The answer is rather simple it seems. I would say it is definitely FALSE.

AMPS represent current… or the amount of electricity being generated, as compared to the amount of water coming out of your hose pipe. Voltage would be the force of the water coming from the hose. Amps is the current being generated. No matter how hard the pressure is in your shower, if there is not enough water coming through you are still not going to benefit from the excess force too much. OHMS is RESISTANCE!

Let’s break it down simply without going into quantum physics as the above answer did, and although while I wouldn’t say the information in the previous answer is wrong, the result is, because it isn’t true. We really do not need to know how electrons flow through copper lines to create electricity itself; we just need to know simply how it works to get the obvious answer. So...stay with me here lol.

All US homes have 240 volts coming into your house outside at the breaker box. Basically, only the dryer uses this… Hence the weird plug-in. The other outlets in your house use one leg of the 240 volts in order to produce 120 Volts, which normally is around 110 volts by the time it reaches your inside outlets. Even 110 volts is too much power for anything to use, so resistors are used to dampen. or weaken the Voltage and current get to things such as your television and lightbulbs the right amount of energy. Example, wood is a resistor, because it doesn’t carry electricity. But we need something that does conduct electricity but without stopping it completely. The resistance that has to be used is measured in OHMS.

AMPS have nothing to do with voltage and resistance. They all depend on each other but are separate things. It doesn’t matter how much voltage you have, if you do not have current or “AMPS” coming through the line, then you will not have enough to power your home or your equipment.
