On the basis of the state of components mixture are two types:

homogeneous mixture - if components have the same physical state such as solid, liquid, or gas. if air has only gases then it would have a homogenous mixture.heterogeneous mixture - if components have different physical states such as in the given case air has gases as well as solid pollutants, So air is a heterogeneous mixture.

The components of air can be separated by:

Electrostatic precipitation: It is used to remove solid pollutants from air such as dust particles and other particles.

Fractional distillation: it is used for the separation of a mixture into its component parts, it helps in separating various gases from the air.
