Information - Buying by Weight Many small objects are sold by total weight rather than by the piece. This includes seeds, nuts, candies, grapes, nails,
and screws among many
other things. By determining the average mass of a small sample of a given type of object, it will be possible to calculate the number of the same
type of object in a larger container
Model - A Bunch of Grapes
If the mass of an average grape is 1.6 9 and someone buys 484 g of grapes (less stems), how many grapes did they buy?
484 9+16 grape = 302 5 grapes
Assuming all the grapes are in fact whole, how can you account for the calculated half a grape?
This is just a mathematical error and we should ignore the decimal and round to 302 grapes.
O All of the grapes do not weigh exactly 1.6 g. This results in the calculation of half a grape.
This is just a mathematical error and we should ignore the decimal and round to 303 grapes.
The half a grape means that one of the grapes must have been damaged and only half of it was bought
