For a single-phase multiple reaction system, consider the following equilibria: C02(g) + 3H2(g) ↔ CH30H(g) + H20(g) reation1

C02(g) + H2(g) ↔ C0(g) + H20(g) reation2

The initial mixture comprises 2 moles of CO2, 5 moles of H2 and 1 mole of CO.

(a) Develop expressions for the mole fractions of the reacting species as a function of the extent of reaction for the above two reactions.

(b) You can assume that all gases in both reactions are ideal gases and the pressure of reactor is kept at 2 bar and is at equilibrium. If the extents of reactions for the above reactions are 0.6 (reaction 1) and 0.8 (reaction 2), calculate the equilibrium constants for both reactions.

(c) For this system, suggest a possible approach to increase the yield of CH3OH.
