During World War II, there was a practice that people would remove some of the gold coins but not enough to not be recognized as a US gold coin. A 1933 Double Eagle gold $20 piece had a mass of 30.0926 grams brand new. If 1.0000 grams was removed, and the United States minted 445,500 coins in 1933, how much money did the government lose by this practice assuming all 445,500 coins were modified. The price of gold today is $1798.53 per oz.
