In Experiment 4, NaBH4 in methanol was used for the reduction of camphor to isoborneol as opposed to the more reactive reducing agent, LiAlH4. If LiAlH4 were used though, protic solvents (e. g. methanol) could not have been employed in the reaction. Explain why LiAlH4 is incompatible with protic solvents .
