Can someone help me with this? Why do cars emit so much carbon dioxide? One liter of petrol (its density 0.7 g / cm) emits about 2.4 kg of carbon dioxide. Is it possible that the mass of carbon dioxide emitted during fuel combustion is much higher than the mass of gasoline consumed? Support this hypothesis with chemical equations and calculations. (a) Petrol is a mixture of hydrocarbons. Suppose a hydrocarbon molecule consists of 8 carbon C atoms and 18 hydrogen H atoms. Write down the formula for this compound. b) When gasoline burns, carbon and hydrogen atoms combine with oxygen O atoms. Write down the formulas of the compounds formed and the hydrocarbon combustion reaction equation. Equalize the coefficients. c) Calculate the masses of hydrocarbon and carbon dioxide formed. Compare them. Remember that the coefficients of the reaction equation show not only the number of molecules but also the number of moles.
