Students heat calcium carbonate in a crucible causing it to decompose into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. CaCO3 Cao + 1020 (5) The stoichiometry predicts that 10.0 grams of Caco, will turn into 5.6 grams of Cao. The actual experiment, however, resulted in 5.0 grams of compound in the crucible after the heating. Suggest a source of error in the actual experiment and explain how that error would have made the mass of CaO appear to be too low. (10 pts)
