Why does the ground turn black after we burn items there or any surface?​

When a hydrocarbon is burnt, the major products are energy (fire), carbon dioxide and water vapours along with oxides of other elements present in the fuel. The black color observed is due to the accumulation of unburnt carbon particles called soot.
