Alfred Wegener was a German physicist as well as a meteorologist, who proposed the theory of continental drift.

He made the following assumptions in his early observation-

He could not come up with a proper evidence initially, but later with the more advance study and observation on this continental drifting, he came up with a theory which is universally accepted as the plate tectonic theory.

From the concept of plate tectonic theory, the earth's core radiates an enormous quantity of heat to the mantle, that forces the magma to become less dense and rises up and as it reaches the upper part of the mantle, it cools and becomes dense and again sinks. This continuous motion of magma generated the convection current that is main reason that forces the continents to move from one place to another.
