An oil company located a area of oil sands and began an analysis of two possible extraction methods. the oil is heavy oil, making pumping difficult. the first method of extraction analyzed was cold heavy oil production with sand (chops). the system is relatively chepas but extracts only about 10% of the available oil. it also produces a lot of contaminated sand that must be disposed of. the second method is steam assisted gravity drainage (sagd). sagd requires two parallel wells, one above the other. steam is pumped into the upper well. the steam heats the heavy oil, which drains into the lower well and is pumped out. this method extracts up to 80% of the oil but is very costly as it requires heating water to steam. no contaminated sand is produced, but oil-contaminated water is.

evaluate the costs and benefits of each of these extraction methods and identify any other factors that could affect the decision of which method to use:

Answer asap need by wednesday morning explain how a buffer works, using an ethanoic acid/sodium ethanoate system including how the system resists changes in ph upon addition of a small amount of base and upon addition of a small amount of acid respectively. include the following calculations in your i. calculate the ph of a solution made by mixing 25cm3 0.1m ch3cooh and 40cm3 0.1m ch3coo-na+. [ka = 1.74 x 10-5 m] ii. calculate the ph following the addition of a 10cm3 portion of 0.08 m naoh to 500cm3 of this buffer solution. iii. calculate the ph following the addition of a 10cm3 portion of 0.08 m hcl to 200cm3 of the original buffer solution.

Consider a culture medium on which only gram-positive organisms such as staphylococcus aureus colonies can grow due to an elevated nacl level. a yellow halo surrounds the growth, indicating the bacterium fermented a sugar in the medium, decreasing the ph as a result and changing the color of a ph indicator chemical. this type of medium would be referred to as a differential and enrichment culture.
