What determines the metallic character of an element?

The tendency of an element to loose an electron and gain positive charge is called metallic character. So an element which easily looses its electron/electrons are called metals. Hope it helps

All the elements are arranged by melting points on the periodic table. in row they go from metals to gasses. in the row from sodium to argon, sodium is more reactive than the one on its right, magnesium.
