Draw the structure of the product formed in the reaction of an epoxide with ethoxide ion. If more than one stereochemical product is possible, draw only one isomer. The starting material is a 6 carbon ring fused to an epoxide through carbons 1 and 2. Both carbons have a wedged bond to the epoxide oxygen and a dashed bond to hydrogen. Step 1 reacts with sodium ethoxide, C H 3 CH 2 O minus. Step 2 is H plus and ethanol. Clearly indicate stereochemistry by drawing a wedged bond, a dashed bond and two in‑plane bonds per chiral carbon. The product(s) of the reaction are characterized as being achiral. S, S. racemic. R, S. S. R, R. R.
