9. Why does the s-block span two groups of elements?

The s-block of the periodic table has 1 orbital

we know that each orbital consists of 2 electrons

and since the periodic table arranges the elements on the basis of their atomic number,

the s-block spans 2 groups.

This is also the reason why the p-block spans 6 groups, d-block spans 10 groups and f-block spans 14 groups
