We will begin this topic by practicing the use of the scientific method. The steps of the scientific method are: observation, hypothesis, experiment, results, and theory. Using your understanding of the scientific method from your readings and lessons, you will be applying this knowledge to a real world situation. Take a real world scenario in the news, or another outside source and apply the scientific method, being sure to detail the controls on your experiment. Describe a result that would confirm your hypothesis.

An example to understand the scientific method and its steps is to take an everyday situation and establish the steps around it.

The scientific method is a term that refers to a research method developed in the seventeenth century focused on the production of new knowledge in the natural sciences. The scientific method is a rigorous process that allows describing situations, formulating and testing hypotheses.

To understand the scientific method we are going to carry out an example checking a hypothesis of everyday life. For example, let's say you are always very sleepy during your biology class.

To carry out the experiment that proves or refutes the hypothesis, it is very important that you do not change anything in my behavior, except for the hours of sleep. I must have the same breakfast, sit in the same place in the class, talk to the same people.

Experiment: The night before biology class I will go to sleep an hour earlier than usual.

If I stop feeling sleepy during biology class after doing the experiment repeatedly (don't forget the importance of doing the experiment several times) the hypothesis will be confirmed. If I continue to be sleepy, I will need to develop new hypotheses.  

According to the above, the scientific method is a method that helps us to verify hypotheses on different topics and has many applications.
