Refer to the experiment below: soil+baking soda+water → creates gas bubble

soil+vinegar → no gas bubble

The only possible explaination is that the baking soda reacts with acids in the soil. however,

alkaline+acids→salt+water

which doesn't creates gas, am I wrong?
