Make an observation.  After you make an observation ask a question.  Now you will be able to form your hypothesis - what is it that you are going to test?  Now, you can make a predication based on the hypothesis that you created.  Make sure to test the predictions that you make.  Collect data.  Check to see if others have done any work like you are collecting data on.  Use data to make your final decisions - based upon the hypothesis and predictions that you made.  If you get confused or lost - start again and change your hypothesis.  Always, always, always reflect on your results.  Make sure to use DATA to back up what you find.
