What does the atomic number of an element refer to?

The atomic number of a element refers to the "amount of protons a element has." For example the element hydrogen's atomic number is one which would mean that hydrogen has one proton also.

v1= (852 ml   x 588 k)/ 698 k= 717.73 ml
