Chlorine is a chemical that is widely used in the treatment of pools. it eliminates bacteria and algae by disinfecting & oxidizes other agents like dirt. when chlorine is added to a pool, a reaction occurs in which a weak acid called hypochlorous acid is produced. chlorinated pools are usually treated with a chemical called calcium hypochlorite, ca(clo)2. pure chlorine (cl2) is not used for all the reasons below except one. which one? a) it is highly toxic b) it has a putrid odor c) it is a noble gas and therefore not reactive d) it is a gas and therefore difficult to handle
