The XYZ company is revisiting its policy regarding expecting its employees to check their work email outside of typical business hours. The head of Human Resources (HR) feels that checking e-mail outside of business hours could be related to their experienced stress levels. On the one hand, it could be the case that being on top-of work email will have employees worry less about their career stability and as a result they become less stressed. On the other hand, it would be the case that employees are unable to disengage from work and spend quality time with their families and as a result they become more stressed. As a result, HR sent out surveys and collected data on how frequently employees check their emails outside of typical business hours as well as their experienced stress levels. Survey questions were based on a scale from 1-7, where 1 indicates very low frequency of checking e-mails as well as low stress level (NEVER) and 7 indicates very high frequency of checking e-mails as well as high stress level (ALWAYS). The Excel file E-mail checking. xlsx has the sample data.
XYZ company would like you (as a junior business analyst) to use this sample data and answer the following questions:
Is there a relationship between e-mail checking outside of office hours and perceived stress level?
