We studied motivation and management theories in this course. These included Theory X, Y, and Z. Most were surprised that Theory X approaches even still exist as we typically think intuitively, and research has borne out that a more participatory approach yields a more engaged workforce, higher levels of customer satisfaction, and better organizational results. Most of us have typically associated these more enlightened management approaches with the high-tech industry as a whole. The item attached is from a very recent Wall Street Journal.
