Each year in America over 5 million homes are sold using a contract known as a Real Estate Purchase Contract (REPC). A REPC will set forth the details for how the home will be purchased, who is buying it, what is included with the sale of the home, when the home will be sold, and much more. Considering the average American will own three homes in their lifetime, and a home purchase is the largest financial investment the average person ever makes, it is important to understand how to properly evaluate this contract.

This REPC

Actions

contains an agreement between Giovanni Martin and Jeffery Lawrence for the purchase of Jeffery’s home. Upon moving into the home Giovanni brought a lawsuit in Ogden’s Second District County against Jeffery, wherein he made the following allegations:

Jeffery improperly took the water purifier from the home when he moved out.
Jeffery improperly took the washer and dryer from the home when he moved out.
Jeffery improperly refused to pay for the $750 home warranty plan Giovanni purchased prior to moving in.
Jeffery responded to the lawsuit demanding that it be dismissed because the contract had specific provisions regarding disputes, and those provisions must be complied with prior to bringing a lawsuit.

Analyze each claim’s validity separately and cite specific provisions of the REPC to support your conclusions. Will Jeffery succeed in getting the case dismissed?

An important application of regression analysis in accounting is in the estimation of cost. by collecting data on volume and cost and using the least squares method to develop an estimated regression equation relating volume and cost, an accountant can estimate the cost associated with a particular manufacturing volume. consider the following sample of production volumes and total cost data for a manufacturing operation. production volume (units) total cost ($) 400 4000 450 5000 550 5400 600 5900 700 6400 750 7000 compute b 1 and b 0 (to 2 decimals if necessary). b 1 b 0 complete the estimated regression equation (to 2 decimals if necessary). = + x what is the variable cost per unit produced (to 1 decimal)? $ compute the coefficient of determination (to 4 decimals). note: report r 2 between 0 and 1. r 2 = what percentage of the variation in total cost can be explained by the production volume (to 2 decimals)? % the company's production schedule shows 500 units must be produced next month. what is the estimated total cost for this operation (to 2 decimals)? $
