The average morphology (size, shape, and composition) of individuals in a population always changes rapidly when that population invades a new habitat.

When the population invades a new habitat the individuals must adapt to the different conditions in the habitat.
In order to establish stable numbers and to be successful in leaving offspring, the individuals must respond to the changed environment with morphological changes that are most suited for these new conditions.
