Electromagnetic waves are transverse waves that carry both electrical and magnetic energy. electromagnetic waves are produced by the vibration of charged particles. these waves are capable of transmitting its energy through a vacuum. electromagnetic waves that are produced on the sun travel to earth through the vacuum of outer space. electromagnetic waves travel at the same speed, approximately 300,000,000 m/s. these waves exist with an enormous range of frequencies and each type of electromagnetic wave is identified by its characteristic frequency and wavelength. the frequency and wavelength of electromagnetic waves are related to the speed of light according to the following formula: frequency x wavelength = speed of light  compare the speed of an x-ray to that of infrared waves in a vacuum. how do they differ? a)x rays are seven times faster than x rays. b)there is no difference; they travel at the same speed. c)infrared waves travel 107  faster than x rays. d)x rays travel 107  times faster than infrared waves.
