In babies, cell enlargement is important to carry out mitosis of cells and increase the number of cells in the body. Let us assume that a cell is about to start division; if spherical, to double the volume and undergo mitosis the cell must increase its surface area 1.6 times. The daughter cells have half the size of the original cell. As the human bodies grows, the size of cells is as important as the number of cells.
