Computers use energy and respond to certain stimuli such as commands from the user why then are computers not considered living things

Because they just aren't. Computers are man-made and the energy they use come from batteries or something. The only reason they can even respond to commands is because they are programmed. Plus, these are basically kindergarten facts, but, living thing need air,water,food and shelter. Computers do not any of that.
