In the plant Arabidopsis thaliana, the hormone florigen is released once the number of hours of daylight reaches 12 hours per day in the spring. Florigen binds to functional protein product of gene A (encoded by the completely dominant allele A1, allele A2 produces a non-functional protein) which allows the binding of this protein to a region upstream of gene B, stimulating its transcription. Gene B can stimulate the transcription of Gene C by binding to part of its promoter region, but only if the concentration of Mg2+ is above 0.1 pM. Expression of functional proteins of Gene C results in the production of flowers. Allele C1 encodes a functional protein while C2 encodes a non-functional protein, and C1 shows complete dominance. Describe whether flowers would be produced in each of the following instances, and explain why or why not. (2 each)
a. Daylight >12 hours, Mg2+ = 0.2 pM, plant genotype is A2A2 : BB : C1C1
b. Daylight >12 hours, Mg2+ = 0.15 pM, plant genotype is A1A1 : BB : C1C2
c. Daylight >12 hours, Mg2+ = 0.05 pM, plant genotype is A1A2 : BB : C1C1
