This one is a bit tricky. ANALYZING DIFFUSION : Diffusion is the process in which molecules spread from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. A science class did an investigation to find out the effects of molecular concentration and temperature on diffusion. In this activity, you will analyze the experiment and draw conclusions from the data.

HYPOTHESIS: Increasing concentration and increasing temperature will increase the rate of diffusion.

In summarizing the data, the class ordered the beakers according to the rate of time it took for the water to become colored. The list is shown below.
F Beaker in which water became completely colored first
E
B
A
D
C Beaker in which water became completely colored last

1. Between the following beakers, A and B, which did diffusion take place at a faster rate and why?

2. Between the following beakers, C and D, which did diffusion take place at a faster rate and why?

3. Between the following beakers, E and F, which did diffusion take place at a faster rate and why?

4. What effect did temperature have on the rate of diffusion?

5. Which set of beakers – A and B, C and D, or E and F – served as the control in this investigation? How do you know?

6. What were the Independent Variables?

7. What was the Dependent Variable?

8. Why did the water in beaker F become colored the fastest?

9. Did the experiment prove the hypothesis?

10. What would happen if the concentration of potassium permanganate in beaker D was increased?

Charles darwin published his theory of evolution in 1859. in what way foes modern evolutionary theory differ from the theory as proposed by darwin? a) darwin inferred that individuals can evolve, but modern generic science has shown that this is not true. b)darwin inferred that individuals do not evolve, but modern genetic science has shown that this is not true. c)modern science has disproved most of darwin's original theory of evolution, because darwin knew nothing about generations and their role in heredity. d)generic studies have shown that gene expression and other factors operate along with natural selection, but most of darwin's theory has been supported by modern science.

The graph shows the amount of global warming happening in different ecosystems. which populations of organisms will likely decline the most as a result of climate change, and why? a.coral reefs because of the loss of the symbiotic algae living within their bodies b.penguin populations because the fish they eat will move into warmer waters c.mountain-dwelling birds because rising sea levels will relocate their food sources d.large cats in the rainforest because of decreased habitat loss for their prey
