ACTIVITY 4 Dialysis
Diffusion of a dissolved substance, or solute, through a semipermeable membrane is called di-
alysis. The solute moves from an area of high solute concentration to an area of low solute con-
centration through a semipermeable membrane. In this experiment, both dialysis and osmosis
will be occurring simultaneously. There are two solutes you will use today: glucose and starch.
By the end of this experiment, you will be able to tell which solutes crossed the "membrane"
of the dialysis tubing and why they were able to cross. Since this experiment requires over two
hours, begin this experiment as soon as possible.
Which carbohydrates do you think will be able to cross the membrane?
Hypothesis:
tol setun
