The figure below represents a cell in an aqueous solution. The intracellular fluid has 9 mmol/L Na+, 10 mmol/L K+, 2 mmol/L glucose, and 32 mmol/L of carbon dioxide (CO2).
The extracellular fluid has 20 mmol/L Na+, 6 mmol/L K+, 5 mmol/L glucose, and 25 mmol/L of carbon dioxide (CO2).

Question 1: For each of the following 2 experiments, predict which solute(s) would be transported and in which direction (in or out of the cell?) when ALL of the following are present in the system at the same time.
Experiment 1
- the membrane has 500 Na+/K+ pumps and 300 GLUT4 transporters
- there is no ATP present in the system

Experiment 2
- the membrane has 300 Na+/K+ pumps and 500 GLUT4 transporters
- there is lots of ATP present in the system
