g Warfarin is metabolized by the CYP2C9 protein. The common allele of this gene is CYP2C9*1, and an individual with two copies of this allele metabolizes warfarin at a rate that is typical of most people. The CYP2C9*2 and CYP2C9*3 alleles are also present in European populations. Each variant allele produces CYP2C9 proteins with a single amino acid change. These changes to the DNA sequence can be described as variants.
