The article mentions the use of the CRISPR system to edit not only human disease but to also alter genomes of plants and animals. Just like the current GMOs this is another way to modify DNA. Most of these changes are to aid human civilization for food shortages, reduce disease, etc. What are some potential problems of altering DNA if only human benefit is taken into consideration? If safe, should gene editing be allowed in human embryos to fight disease or alter phenotypic traits? Include restrictions if any that would need to be placed on the technology and how would they be enforced in your response.
