The Miller-Urey hypothesis is based on the chemical experiment done by Miller and Urey to test the chemical origin of life. In their experiment, they stimulated the conditions as thought to be present on early or primitive Earth and used simple inorganic molecules, such as nitrogen gas, carbon dioxide and energy.  

Formation of nucleic acids, amino acids, and other organic molecules took place in the experiment.
