What can taphonomy tell scientists about fossils?

Taphonomy is the study of the formation of fossils after the death of an organism.

Taphonomy helps in understanding the fossil records like how the organism died, the number of fossils found and their information and the process which affect the fossil record. The process of  taphonomy includes:

1.  Necrology- study about how the organism died in the past and the factors which led to the loss of its pieces of the organism.

2. Biostratinomy- is the study of the factors of what happened from the death of the organism to the burial.

3. Diagenesis- is the study of the factors of what happened after the burial of the organism.
