A hypotonic solution has a lower concentration of solutes than another solution. Hypertonic means that the environment outside of the cell has a higher concentration of solutes than the cell itself. That will attract water molecules from the cell leading to the shrinking of the cell.

Isotonic is a term used to describe solutions and chemistry and, sometimes, muscles in human biology. In chemistry, a solution is said to be isotonic when it has the same concentration of solutes as another solution across a semipermeable membrane.
