I NEED BY TODAY PLSSS ;-; When moss is in the gametophyte stage, it is a green, low-lying mass of plants. During this stage, the sex cells are produced in the male and female reproductive structures found on the gametophyte. Fertilization occurs when the sex cells, eggs and sperm, meet. This takes place during periods of heavy rain or dew as the sperm need these conditions to travel to the eggs. The zygote is produced which grows in to a young sporophyte. The sporophyte, a structure resembling a long stalk growing from the gametophyte, creates and holds the spores. Unable to carry on photosynthesis, the sporophyte relies on the gametophyte for nutrients and water. When mature, spores are released and fall to the ground or are carried by the wind and will grow into new gametophytes. The cycle begins again.

Compare and contrast the gametophyte and sporophyte stages of the moss plant.
