What are the environmental issues with using coal as a source of energy?

Using coal as a source of energy can come with some environmental issues. And it involves other chemicals, which are sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide.
Sulfur dioxide contributes to acid rain and respiratory illnesses. Nitrogen oxide contributes to smog and respiratory illnesses. And particulates contribute to smog, haze, and respiratory illnesses and lung disease.
