Body symmetry is defined as balanced division of body parts in an orderly manner. There are three main types of body symmetry these includes:

--> Asymmetry

--> Bilateral and

Asymmetrical body division involves animals that when divided, doesn't show any identical features. That is one side doesn't match the other side.. Atypical example is seen in phylum porifera, the sponges. They are simple aquatic invertebrates that lack specialised tissues.

BILATERAL SYMMETRY: This is where the body of animals can be cut along its axis in only one plane to give two identical halves, the right and the left side. The terms anterior, posterior, ventral, and dorsal are used to describe a bilateral symmetrical animal. The evolution of bilateral symmetry allow body parts to become specialised seen in most advanced animals.

RADIAL SYMMETRY: this involves animals where the body can be cut along its axis in any plane to give two identical halves. This is an ideal body symmetry for immobile organisms such as starfish and hydra.
