This happens due to Earth's inclined axis which changes as the Earth rotates and causes more daylight in the Northern or Southern hemispheres which is when summer starts in each. That being said the Equator is the only location that has an even amount of sunshine all year round. This is why it is always hot and Equator cultures only recognize dry and wet seasons but still consider it summer all year round.
