Explanation:

The six principles of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN) are as follow:

1- Independence principle: botanical nomenclature is independent of other nomenclatures. This means that all plants must be classified in accordance with the ICBN rules, without exception.

2- Classification based on the type: classification is based on nomenclatural types (selected types are referred to as syntypes).

3- Priority principle: the priority for the nomenclature of a particular taxonomic group is determined by its publication.  

4- Uniqueness principle: there exists only one specific name for each taxonomic group.  

5- Latin use: scientific names must be Latinized or treated as if they were in Latin.

6- Retroactive rule: it is imperative to consider the consequences of proposed changes in names already published.
